EX4600 VC switch expansion

Hi,

Currently I have a pair of EX4600 VC using 10G Fiber port as VC port. I'd like to add a new pair of EX4600 to the existing VC using 40G QSFP port as VC port. So we will have a mixture of 10G & 40G VC port between existing and new switches.

I'd like to know if my understanding is correct and it is doable to have a mix of 10G & 40G as VC port.

Thank you

Q-in-Q vlan with dot1q-tunneling not working

$

Hi

I have tried to created a q-in-q vlan between two (2) EX3300 with adv.lic for dot1q feature and the service vlan goes through 3 core switches EX4500+EX4500+EX4600, that traffic is not limited in any way = vlan members ALL.

The customers want to pick their own vlans behind the EX3300 and transport this over this connection.

Client is facing the ge-0/0/1 port from another switch where the port is configured as trunk port and want to push approx 8 different vlans into to this q-in-q.

What is missing to get this working? The configuration is done according to Junos requirements, se also KB21686

Many thanks for your assitance and help is appreciated

/MICDUF

Below is junos config

Hi,

device: mx480

I am configuring a bridge domain with more vlan. This is the configuration:

set interfaces xe-0/2/0 traps
set interfaces xe-0/2/0 vlan-tagging
set interfaces xe-0/2/0 encapsulation flexible-ethernet-services
set interfaces xe-0/2/0 unit 101 description GLOBAL
set interfaces xe-0/2/0 unit 101 encapsulation vlan-bridge
set interfaces xe-0/2/0 unit 101 vlan-id 101
set bridge-domains GLOBAL domain-type bridge
set bridge-domains GLOBAL vlan-id 101
set bridge-domains GLOBAL interface xe-0/2/0.101

If I add:

set interfaces xe-0/2/0 unit 101 family inet address 10.9.30.26/31

I receive the following error:

m2240# commit
[edit bridge-domains GLOBAL interface]
'xe-0/2/0.101'
only family bridge can be configured on this interface
error: commit failed: (statements constraint check failed)

[edit]

I tryed to google the error but I didn't find nothing. Someone can help ?

qfx don't show subinterface

Hi,

on a qfx5100 I configured some subinterface

set interfaces xe-0/0/46:0 vlan-tagging
set interfaces xe-0/0/46:0 encapsulation flexible-ethernet-services
set interfaces xe-0/0/46:0 unit 101 description GLOBAL
set interfaces xe-0/0/46:0 unit 101 traps
set interfaces xe-0/0/46:0 unit 101 vlan-id 101
set interfaces xe-0/0/46:0 unit 101 family inet address 10.9.30.27/31
set interfaces xe-0/0/46:0 unit 401 description CUST
set interfaces xe-0/0/46:0 unit 401 traps
set interfaces xe-0/0/46:0 unit 401 vlan-id 401
set interfaces xe-0/0/46:0 unit 401 family inet address 10.9.30.25/31
set interfaces xe-0/0/46:0 unit 850 description ENT
set interfaces xe-0/0/46:0 unit 850 traps
set interfaces xe-0/0/46:0 unit 850 vlan-id 850
set interfaces xe-0/0/46:0 unit 850 family inet address 10.9.30.241/29

but If I give "show interface terse" I don't see that subinterfaces but only:

xe-0/0/46 up up
xe-0/0/46.16386 up up

the physical interface is up.

Why ?

 I expect to see something like:

xe-0/0/46:0.101  up    10.9.30.27/31

xe-0/0/46:0.401 up     10.9.30.25/31

xe-0/0/46:0.850  up    10.9.30.241/29

DHCP issues, across trunk?

$

I am trying to get my PS4 an external IP address with the following design:

Juniper EX2200 - Switch2

ge-0/0/0.0 vlan member iNET (500) - this is where the PS4 is

ge-0/1/1.0 port-mode trunk, members iNET, description To_Switch1

Juniper EX2200 - Switch1

ge-0/0/23.0 vlan member iNET (500) - this is where the internet

ge-0/0/22.0 port-mode trunk, members iNET, description To_Switch2

SW-1# run show lldp neighbors
Local Interface    Parent Interface    Chassis Id          Port info          System Name
ge-0/0/22.0        -                   54:4b:8c:de:2e:40               SW-1        SW-2

ps4 > sw2 > sw1 > inet

If I change the PS4 interface to a LAN subnet it gets DHCP fine from SW1 but is now behind my NAT, which is what I'm trying to avoid.

I have an SRX and ASA on SW1 with VLAN 500 and they get IP addresses without issue, could there be a limitation on the EX switches not broadcasting from untag - tag - untag?

Basically I see the DHCP requests on SW1, but it doesn't seem to be sending the DHCP across the 0/0/23.

Hello, can anyone please tell me as to how many MAC addresses can be learned per port on EX switches, Is this figure different depending on the EX switch model, if so I would like to know for EX3300,3400,4200 and EX4400. I wasn't able to come across this info in the data sheets

[QFX5100] dhcp-relay options

hi guys, ive read some juniper Kbs regarding dhcp-relay options and i cant make it work based on their commands

are there any straight-forward CLI guide out there to follow?

did anyone try this on their lab or in production environment?

i can ping 4 of my dhcp servers from the qfx console.

but i cannot relay the dhcp packets to the windows dhcp server.

this is the config below;

set forwarding-options dhcp-relay overrides
set forwarding-options dhcp-relay relay-option
set forwarding-options dhcp-relay forward-only
set forwarding-options dhcp-relay server-group 4 1.1.1.1
set forwarding-options dhcp-relay server-group 4 1.1.1.2
set forwarding-options dhcp-relay server-group 4 1.1.1.3

set forwarding-options dhcp-relay server-group 4 1.1.1.4
set forwarding-options dhcp-relay group 4 active-server-group 4-svrs
set forwarding-options dhcp-relay group 4 interface ae0.0
set forwarding-options dhcp-relay group 4 interface irb.10
set forwarding-options dhcp-relay group 4 interface irb.20
set forwarding-options dhcp-relay group 4 interface irb.30
set forwarding-options dhcp-relay group 4 interface irb.40

set forwarding-options dhcp-relay active-server-group 4-svrs

ae0 is trunk port which allows all vlan members.

any suggestioins?

QFX really weird OPTIC issue

So we have 2 QFX-5100-48s switches.

We plugged a certified compatible 10GB optic into a port 46 on switch 1. It didnt light up. We figure, bad optic. We plug another known good optic into the same port. Doesnt work. Take this same known good optic, plug it into the port next door, works. Take it out, plug the first optic into the new port, doesnt work. Plug the known good one into this same new port, doesnt work.

Its almost like this first optic breaks ports ? This cant be true right ? I reboot the cluster, the condition persists. I have a case open.

Any thoughts ? Thanks.

connecting EX4300 VC to EX4600 non-VC

$

I am having an issue connecting a VC of EX4300s for a non-VC of EX4600s.  As you can see from the topology (sorry for using the wrong stencils) the 4600s are using the et-0/0/24 as a trunk port for all VLANs.  The l3-irb interfaces are defined (VRRP) on the 4600s and the stack of 4300s are only doing layer 2.

All others times I have done a setup like this I would use (2) 10G uplinks from each 4600 and do LACP.  I'm stuck on how to do this with a VC to non-VC.  The uplink interfaces on all these devices are setup and standard trunks running RSTP.

I am only using (1) 10G uplink from each 4600 going to 2 members in the VC.  When plugged into the VC, I can ping the gateway just fine, but when I unplug the uplink the 1st 4600, I lose connectivity.  Any ideas on how to troubleshoot this?

Scheduled JUNOS upgrade

Hello

Is there any way to schedule automatic upgrade of JUNOS in EX series swithces. For exampe

We have 50 number of swithes that need upgrade and I need some kind of script that can schedule the upgrade of JUNOS code at specific period of time without any user intervention.

Overall means automatic upgarde of JUNOS at specific period of time.

Thanks in advance !!!

How to add or remove multiple VLANs from few interfaces without using full VLAN name?

$

Hi

I'm confusing with managing VLANs on my EX4550. In Extreme Summit X650 I could simple use AWK to prepare commnads for adding or removing VLANs without using full names:

config vlan v118- add ports tagged 17,28
config vlan v150- add ports tagged 17,28
config vlan v315- add ports tagged 17,28

where v118- have full name v118-R1C1 and tag 118, v150-  full name is v150-D3T2 and tag 150, and so on.

How can I manage VLANs on my EX4550 in the same way?

Hi,

We have a 4300 virtual chassis stack of 3 and is configured preprovisioned.  When I do show virtual-chassis status, only unit 1 is showing neighbors for 0 and 2.  But unit 0 and 2 are not showing each other as neighbors.  We have 4200 stacks and have never seen this.  Stack has been rebooted, and cable from Unit 0 to 2 replaced.  Any help is appreciated!

Ex 4300 VSTP no interface all blows up config .. no Interface Range for AE?

Hey

since the EX 4300 uses the ELS, the syntax is a little bit different from what im used to from the ex 2200 and ex 3300 configs.

I want to setup VSTP on a EX4300-32f VC which has 45 LAGS (ae0-ae45) and 75 Vlans configured.

Since i cant use the interface all command - do i really need to configure it explicitly for all vlans and all AEs ?

i know i can do it with wildcard ranges.. but it blows up the config by so much.. isnt there a better way than this?

vlan 1 {
bridge-priority 0;
interface ae0;
interface ae1;
interface ae2;

....
interface ae45;

}
vlan 2 {
bridge-priority 0;
interface ae0;
interface ae1;
interface ae2;

...
interface ae45;

...

vlan 75 {
bridge-priority 0;
interface ae0;
interface ae1;
interface ae2;

...
interface ae45;

i thought about doing it with putting the AEs in an interface range called LAGS .. but seems like i cant put AEs in a member range.. only the physical interfaces?

Thanks for suggestions

hello

I post in junospace area but this may have something to do with the switches

we have been upgrading this with juno space for the last month and no issues, now all the switched are failing the upgrade, the package pushes, it installs and reboots but it says it failed

all switches then report booting from backup image and i have to run a snapshot (running a snapshot before shows the new code installed BTW)

anyideas on this?

one switch will not let me run a snapshot

> request system snapshot slice alternate

Formatting alternate root (/dev/da0s2a)...
error: Could not format alternate root

anyway to fix this?

Useful Steps to recover from a Loader prompt ( Loader>)

                                               Steps to recover from a Loader prompt ( Loader> )

There may be situations if a unit has failed to load the kernel during boot process and displays the below message:

can't load '/kernel'can't load '/kernel.old'

Press any key or space bar to enter into the loader prompt. < After pressing space bar or any key you would be directed to the below prompt >

Loader >

To recover from this situation, below procedure can be used.

  1. Format a USB stick with the FAT32 file system.
  2. Copy the desired JunOS image (*.tgz) to the USB Stick. Make sure that no file(s) is there in the USB drive before copying the Junos image.
  3. Insert the USB stick into the USB port on the switch.
  4. Connect via console port to the switch.
  5. Power on the switch.
  6. Press the space bar after getting the above message to get into the loader prompt.
  7. Type the command " loader>install file:///jinstall-ex-xxxx-xx.xxx.x-domestic-signed.tgz and press [enter]”. < Marked in BLUE is the Junos image file name copied in the USB>
  8. After the above command the switch would reboot and get you to the normal prompt.
  9. It would ask for User Name to get in. Type root as username and press [enter], it would give you the % prompt. There is a possibility that system would not accept the root as username, this would be in the case of old units where root-login is denied. Then there would be a need to recover the root password and there is a separate procedure for it.
  10. Above command (@ point 7 )will load the Junos in the switch but there is a possibility that switch may boot from the old partition having old version of image.
  11. Verify the same using # run show system snapshot media internal command. This command will show the Junos image present in both the partitions (In below image both have the same version).

12. If the unit has the updated/desired verison then skip the step number 13.

13. Run command # run request system reboot slice alternate to get the new version of Junos stored in alternate         partition, in case required.

14.  Now the new unit is ready to join the VC or master.

15. Make the connections and check the status of new unit . After this, the unit would get the configuration from master once joined in VC.

Hi all,

my company have plenty of EX4200 : a lot of them have an old version of JunOS ( 12.3R6.6 ).

I would like to update them but JTAC Recommended release for this product is 12.3R12. ( and EOS is the 31-Jul-2017 )

Does there is the possibility to update to 15.1R4 ? i don't understand difference between this two versions (except the support of SDN )

thanks for your help

cordially
