Cant ping across switchs on managment IP.

$

Hi All,

setup looks like this:

SW2.....>SW1......>SRX (attached detailed diagram to this post.)

using IRB.60 on both switches and mngt vlan is setup with trunk ports addedd. i have the gateway for the mngt subnet on SRX interface 15 set as pure l3 interface (0/15 family inet address xx ). tried to use vlan interface on the SRX but couldnt make it work.

SW1 pings both SRX and SW2 and vice versa.

SRX and SW2 cant ping each other, SRX resolves the ARP for SW2 but SW2 cant resolve the SRP for SRX. could it be that SW1 isnt passing traffic on MNGT vlan over to the SRX?

Apreciate suggestions.

Lish.

Ex4200 console port issue

I have 2 EX4200 for my lab so no support.. First I can put both switches in a viryual chassis and they seem to work OK..But the 2nd switch console port is dead..Even if I break the VC..Here is what I have noticed if I type %stty is says baudrate 38400 and the lines below look different then a working switch..

I think somehow that console config/file has got corrupted..Any ideas on how to fix it? Because console port is dead I can't do any boot commands but I can get to the % prompt.

Like I mentioend working on my JNCIS-ENT so I want to learn how to fix it if possible Smiley Happy

MSDP MSDP Originator ID and Dense mode region on EX 4300

Hi everyone,

1)Usually MSDP peers are used to connect separate IP PIM sparse regions/domains. In Cisco we can overrwrite that behavior:

(10.10.10.10-SRC---R1--PIM DENSE--R2)--SPARSE-MODE---(R3----Sparse--R4-Listener-235.1.1.1)

                                                                     <-------MSDP--------->

Above we have two regions connected by MSDP. R2 is connected to SParse and dense region, and has loopback 0 :1.1.1.1 as RP. Similarly R3 uses Lo: 3.3.3.3 as RP.  Both uses Lo for MSDP peerng.

By default If R2 sees multicast stream say (10.10.10.10. 235.1.1.1) from SRC, it will discards it because it is received over Dense region. We can overwrite that by using:

R2 ( config) ip msdp roiginator-id loopback 0.

R2 can now sends SA ( 10.10.10.10,235.1.1.1) with RP 1.1.1.1  over TCP to R3

My question can we do the same thing with EX 4300  what R2 is doing?

Thanks and have a nice weekend!!

Seems to be Juniper supplied second copy of RE image instead of PFE.

I am working with a pair of EX3300-48 switches.  W have several satellite receivers connected to these for a analog to digital video migration.  When using VLC Viewr and the Arris CAP1000 to mintor the streqam we are seeing these atop after 3-6minutes.  These services must not stop.

We recently upgraded our switches, while changing one friday we ran into an issue where one of the fibers did not uplink, we have changed optics in the switch, tested fiber from a to b, changed st connections, and even reterminated fibers on each end and still no uplink. Any ideas?

Mac limit

We used to have several EX4200's running Junos 12.3.  We had those devices configured to limit the mac addresses to one for users and three for user+VoIP phone.  We could issue the "show ethernet-switching interface" and the display would show the interface that had a mac limit exceeded.  We could then issue the "clear ethernet-switching port-error" command and clear the error.  Now we have EX4300 switches running 17.2 and the commands display different information or are different.  Is there a comand that displays which interfaces have exceeded the mac limit in version 17.2?  Also is the command "clear ethernet-switching recovery-timeout" how you fix a interface that has exceeded it's mac limit?  Thanks for any help.

IGMP needed on PIM Interface towards source

$

Hi

I have read and seen that when you enable pim sparse mode on an interface it is enabling IGMP automatically.

I have an irb interface that faces only towards a source.

I am seeing PIM state created on that interface for the required groups.

But I am seeing log entries for:

Interface irb.123: Group record with invalid mode for SSM group

Thus my question is do I have to have IGMP in this scenario where there are no recievers on that interface?

thanks

Hi Guys,

I have an EX4200 with an uplink to a customer.

i would like to limit the customer incoming and outgoind traffic to 60M.

the inbound working fine, configuration:

Policer
======
set firewall policer Policer_60M if-exceeding bandwidth-limit 60m
set firewall policer Policer_60M if-exceeding burst-size-limit 1m
set firewall policer Policer_60M then discard

FW Filter
=======
set firewall family ethernet-switching filter TEST1 term 1 then accept
set firewall family ethernet-switching filter TEST1 term 1 then policer Policer_60M

Applying FW Filter to Interface
=======================
set interfaces ge-0/0/1 unit 0 family ethernet-switching filter input TEST1

the outgoing limit isnt working(shaping), configuration:

set class-of-service interfaces ge-0/0/1 shaping-rate 10m
set class-of-service traffic-control-profiles output shaping-rate 60m
set class-of-service traffic-control-profiles output shaping-rate burst-size 30k
set class-of-service interfaces ge-0/0/1 output-traffic-control-profile output

there is anything missing?

Thanks,

Firmware version required for Installing EX9200-6QS line card in existing EX9200 Core Switch

$

Hello there,

I have been doing some research based on our current requirement.

We need to install a 40G line card on the existing EX 9200 core switch.  Below are my findings:

According to the Juniper documents:

  1. Minimum JunOS release required to install the EX9200-6QS is 14.2R1 or later.

  1. But since there is a bug found in 14.2R1 as below:

Problem report - PR1068396

  • On EX9200 switches, if an IRB logical interface is configured on an EX9200-6QS line card as part of a VLAN, any device connected through that interface will not be able to route outside of the subnet because EX9200-6QS drops all ARP requests. As a result, the EX9200-6QS line card drops all routed traffic, including both data plane and control plane traffic. Configuring static ARP on devices using the EX9200 as gateway is not a workaround, because the packets are still dropped if the Routing Engine of the EX9200 has the routes and ARP entry for the destination IP. The minimum software release for the EX9200-6QS line card is Junos OS Release 14.2R1. However, if your switch configuration includes an IRB logical interface configured on an EX9200-6QS line card as part of a VLAN, as a workaround, upgrade your software to the release specified in TSB16659.

Source - https://www.juniper.net/documentation/en_US/junos/information-products/topic-collections/release-notes/14.2/junos-release-notes-14.2r2.pdf

  1. The software has to be upgraded to 14.2R2-S2 if we configure IRB interfaces and inter-vlan routing.

Technical Bulletin - TSB16659 says that the bug is fixed in Junos OS Release 14.2R2-S2 and all later releases.

Source - https://kb.juniper.net/InfoCenter/index?page=content&id=S:TSB16659

  1. As for Juniper's recommended release for EX9200 series switches, they recommend 16.1R6

Source - https://kb.juniper.net/InfoCenter/index?page=content&id=KB21476&actp=METADATA#ex_series

  1. Currently customer is running - 14.2R7.5 where it does support inter-vlan routing with IRB interfaces.

Now it’s up to us whether we need to upgrade it to the recommended release or just install the line card directly without any upgrade.

Any suggestions/comments/recommendations if the firmware needs to be upgraded or not  based on your experiences will be greatly appreciated.
